Massage Therapy in Waterloo
While many people think of massage as a luxurious spa treatment, massage has many powerful therapeutic benefits. These include the following: increases blood flow, decreases muscle and joint pain, promotes relaxation, improves posture, rebalances your body and mind and improves flexibility.

We recommend massage in combination with your chiropractic care. While chiropractic concentrates on the relationship between the spine and its impact on the nervous system, massage focuses on the 650 muscles of the body. Both disciplines work together to help keep the body in proper alignment, balance and function.
In the area of prenatal care, Tara, our RMT, and Dr. Cathy have been working quite a bit together, Tara treating the soft tissues and Dr. Cathy addressing the neurological system.
Where will my massage take place?
Your massage will take place in a quiet, warm and comfortable room. Soft lighting may be used to create a relaxing atmosphere. You’ll lie on a soft, comfortable table. Music may be played softly in the background to aid in the relaxation process of your mind and nervous system.
Comfortable clothing is recommended; for the assessment and health history portion of the appointment. Clients are asked to undress to their comfort level, and are appropriately draped at all times during the treatment. You decide what level of comfort is right for you. Your privacy is respected at all times.
It depends on the techniques used. Your massage session may start with broad, flowing strokes to begin the relaxation process. Pressure will be gradually increased to relax specific areas and release tight muscle bands. It’s important that the pressure always be within your comfort level. Should you wish to receive less or more pressure at any time, tell Tara.
Occasionally, some people may be sore/tender in places the next day, depending on the type of massage and degree of pressure they received. It’s important to communicate with Tara if the pressure is uncomfortable at any time. Drinking additional fluids following your massage may reduce these symptoms, which will usually subside by the following day.
Our RMT will email you a health history form to complete. You also will need to provide consent.
Tara will ask that this initial session be an hour so she can properly review your health history and perform any assessments that are required to treat what’s going on. After the first session, you can have a 30-, 45- or 60-minute session.
It depends on what you’re coming in for. For example, if you just want your neck worked on, then 30 minutes is all that’s needed. However, if you have multiple areas that need treated, you’ll likely need an hour-long session.
Dr. Cathy and Tara can collaborate to provide clients with the well-rounded care they need.
Because Tara is a regulated healthcare professional, she issues a receipt and can submit that to your extended healthcare provider.
No, you don’t need a referral from a doctor unless your insurance company requires it.
It’s very safe. Tara has completed advanced studies in prenatal massage. Tara’s approach is gentle, educational and expansive. She treats her pregnant clients sidelying, semi-seated and pillowed for comfort. Prenatal massage provides relief from, hip/pelvic discomforts, back, neck and shoulder strain, swelling and leg cramps.
